BMW fault codes on the built-in screen

Read the fault memory of your car's control units straight from the NBT Evo menu — no laptop, no adapter in the OBD port, no phone app. The code, status and a plain-language description of every fault.

  • No laptop or adapter
  • Descriptions in several languages
  • Works offline
  • Read-only

How it works

  1. 1

    Open diagnostics

In the car menu, like any built-in screen. Nothing to plug in.

  2. 2

    Start reading

The head unit queries the control units one by one. You see how much is left and can cancel at any time.

  3. 3

    See the result

A list of control units with fault counts, and a card for each fault with its code, status and description.

What it does

Control unit list

Which units answered and how many faults each has. A unit with no faults, a unit that did not answer and an unsupported request look different — an empty list is never passed off as "all fine".

Fault card

The raw code, the status — whether the fault is present now or only stored in memory — and a description. If there is no description, the code is shown as is, with no guessing.

Built-in reference

Control unit names and fault descriptions in several languages are stored in the head unit itself. No internet or phone needed.

Only when you ask

Reading starts by hand and never runs in the background. While it runs, the car menus work as usual.

Read-only

Diagnostics never clears, codes or programs anything. Clearing faults and repairs are for the workshop.

What you need

  • A BMW with the NBT Evo head unit
  • A supported head unit software version — the list comes with the release
  • The list of readable control units comes with the release; the first version is not tested on all of them
