What if something goes wrong during installation?
The installer only changes Wayglass files and checks the head unit before any change. If the connection drops, start it again: it finishes the installation or puts everything back as it was.
Can I remove Wayglass?
Yes, with the wayglass remove command of the installer. The head unit goes back to its factory behaviour.
Do I need a dealer, coding or E-Sys?
No. You only need a computer and an ENET cable.
What does the installation code look like and where do I enter it?
The code is 10 Latin letters and digits like XXXXX-XXXXX; some resellers give it with the WG- prefix (WG-XXXXX-XXXXX), which is the same code. Enter it in the installer after --code, with or without the prefix; case and dashes do not matter. It is not a BMW FSC or FI code.
Which cable do I need?
An ENET cable: OBD on one end, Ethernet on the other. It's the same cable used with E-Sys. If your computer has no Ethernet port, you'll need a USB to Ethernet adapter.
Does it work with wired CarPlay?
CarPlay on NBT Evo is wireless only. Wayglass works with it.
Why can't I see lanes?
Lanes are shown when the navigation app provides them. Of the tested apps, Yandex Navigator does and Apple Maps doesn't.
What happens if I start BMW navigation?
The built-in navigation gets the HUD and the cluster; Wayglass waits and comes back when guidance ends.
What happens after a dealer software update?
The update may change the head unit software to a version Wayglass doesn't support yet. Remove Wayglass before the visit, then check compatibility and install it again.
Android Auto, Waze?
Android Auto is a separate Wayglass project: wireless Android Auto on the built-in screen, with its guidance on the HUD and cluster. It is in development — see the Android Auto page. Waze has not been tested yet.
Does Wayglass show guidance on the instrument cluster?
Yes, on the LED instrument cluster — where BMW navigation draws it. Not on a classic cluster with needles. By default Wayglass does what BMW navigation does: HUD on — guidance on the HUD, HUD off — on the cluster. In the car menu you can pick HUD only, cluster only or both.
Does the car need internet?
No. Only the computer needs internet, so the installer can download Wayglass.
Does Wayglass send my routes anywhere?
No. Guidance is processed in the head unit itself. During installation the installer sends head unit details to the server to pick the right package.
